On 25 January 2007, the Commission sent a letter of formal notice to Ireland drawing attention to the fact that the continuing exemption of VHI from the application of EU legislation on direct insurance other than life insurance was contrary to the requirements of the first directive, despite considerable changes made to the capacity of that body since 1973. I hope that is implemented soon. I will not press the amendment but we have been asked by Europe on numerous occasions to do this. It is a matter that should be addressed soon.
