It is also interesting that the Department of Health's national intellectual disability database registered 27,500 persons with an intellectual disability in the Republic of Ireland, of whom 34% or roughly 9,000 are registered athletes with Special Olympics Ireland, of whom a percentage must have been affected by the withdrawal of the mobility allowance.
