We are constantly harangued on the Opposition side by Members on the Government side about the bad decisions Fianna Fáil made. I joined Fianna Fáil because the people in it, from Lemass on, were pragmatic doers. In 2001, the then Minister for Agriculture and Food, Joe Walsh, single-handedly prevented foot and mouth disease from spreading in Ireland. Every morning he held crisis meetings and put plans in place which were implemented on a daily basis. The current Minister is a bit wet behind the ears on how to achieve anything other than PR.
