Philantrophy and Fund-raising: Motion
2:05 pm
Caít Keane (Fine Gael) | Oireachtas source
The Minister has said it will not displace funding, it will help the funding.
I firmly believe that philanthropy is as beneficial to the donor as it is to the recipient. I have been associated with a range of arts, culture and heritage organisations and was chairman of the RUA RED South Dublin Arts Centre in Tallaght for many years. A great deal of time goes to raising money as well as producing the work. I know the significant personal reward that comes from a commitment of supporting the giving as well as the giving. I know, however, that philanthropy is a new territory for many organisations. Changing thinking and attitudes is as much a challenge as getting arts and other organisations such as social, voluntary and education organisations, to take the plunge and go out and seek the support they deserve.
