I rise to express my concern with regard to some aspects of employment law as it stands. It seems that in the current economic climate the rights of employees are often overlooked and neglected. I say as much in the context of a situation that is evolving in Athboy, County Meath, at a hotel called the Old Darnley Lodge. The staff at the Old Darnley Lodge were informed last Wednesday, with one hour's notice, that they were being laid off. The operators of the hotel, the management, have not been in contact with them and are unable to be contacted despite the fact that the staff have not received any clarification about redundancy, holiday pay, hours owed and other entitlements. I call on the Leader to facilitate a meeting and for the Minister to come to the House to discuss employment law in general and perhaps this case in particular.
