Social Welfare Bill 2012: Report Stage
12:05 pm
David Cullinane (Sinn Fein) | Oireachtas source
There are many elements of the budget which we as legislators will not be in a position to properly scrutinise. That is regrettable, but it is a matter for the Cathaoirleach. I accept that this is more of a procedural problem than anything else.
I strongly disagree with many of the provisions contained in the Bill. However, I acknowledge the contributions made by Senators on all sides yesterday in seeking a more robust and genuine engagement early next year on how we can ensure that we protect the vulnerable in society, carers and those for whom they care and people with disabilities. I am of the view that there will be a constructive engagement by Senators from all parties and none if the Minister keeps her promise to come before us early in the new year to discuss the matters to which I refer.
