A relevant letter was published in The Irish Times the other day from Mr. P. J. O'Mara. It made the point that while the Government has indicated its support for legislation to ban alcohol-based sponsorship of sporting events, we are still seeing such events being advertised and the announcement of forthcoming events. As Mr. O'Mara puts it in his letter, is it the case that the Government is happy to send out the message that it wants to end alcohol-based sponsorship of sporting events but is refusing to give us a timeframe? It is important that we would hear from the Government on the issue and that we hear not just what it intends to do but when it intends to do it.
