Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (Amendment) Bill 2011: Committee and Remaining Stages
2:00 pm
John Gilroy (Labour)
With regard to the figure of €3.3 million for ushers and criers, of which there are 44 and 41, respectively, the Minister of State is saying that that is a substantial cost to the courts system, but of course we must understand that this cannot be a saving, because even if we do abolish the posts of usher and crier, these pay costs will still accrue because the people involved will simply be relocated to another Department. They are surely permanent civil or public servants. Would the Minister of State be able to comment on that?
