I state this with no disrespect to those who work there, because just as is the case with politicians, in each group within society some people do their best and work for their country while others bring the rest into disrepute. However, I am embarrassed by this debate and it is like being in a banana republic to be obliged to produce an emergency Bill to bring in young doctors from Pakistan and India. I was pleased when Madame Lagarde, the new chief of the IMF, praised Ireland internationally earlier this week. We have brilliant achievements in the private sector. We have got our act together, but the newspapers are spreading depressing news every day. One of the young people I met out on the Roscommon protest said "I'm getting out of this country on Monday. It's a failure". It is not a failure.
