It is estimated that over the past two years 200,000 jobs have been lost in the construction sector and related areas. A further 100,000 jobs could be at risk in future because of the reduced level of public and private investment. It is a devastating situation for individuals and families whose lives depend on the construction sector. The Bill before us is a great tribute to Senator Quinn. In addition, the legislation will give hope for the future to people in the construction industry, including their representatives in the Visitors Gallery.
