Central Bank Reform Bill 2010: Committee and Remaining Stages
9:00 pm
Paschal Donohoe (Fine Gael)
I move amendment No. 2:
In page 10, before section 4, but in Part 2, to insert the following:
4.—The Governor of the Central Bank and the Head of Financial Regulation shall
present to the Houses of the Oireachtas an appraisal of the Recommendations of the
Statutory Commission of Investigation on the Banking system within 3 months of
such Commission completing its work.".
We had much discussion in the House on the various banking reports taking place. The institution which is to be set up will play a very important role in ensuring that such difficulties will never again confront our country. The purpose of this amendment is to ensure that when the banking reports are completed the Central Bank commission and the organisation under it will produce a view on the recommendations of the reports, allowing Members of the Oireachtas to hear those views and understand what action will be taken to ensure we are never again plunged into this difficulty.
