People in rural areas are complaining they can no longer cut turf; others claim they may end up not being allowed to fish. There are genuine concerns in rural Ireland about European directives. It is important for this House at least to reflect accurately what is happening in Europe, particularly after the ratification of the Lisbon treaty which has given an enhanced role to national parliaments in EU affairs.
