Smarter Travel Initiative: Motion
10:30 am
Paudie Coffey (Fine Gael)
I will not say much more than that. I had wanted to speak about the cuts in bus services in rural Ireland because they are having a deep impact. People have no access to public transport and are using their cars more because Bus Éireann has cut some very popular services. I could mention Waterford again and services to towns such as Cappoquin, Lismore and Tallow. These were served by Bus Éireann on the route between Waterford and Cork but they are no longer so served and people are using their cars more. It is a great pity we are denuding and cutting back those services when we should be trying to encourage more use of public transport.
