Petroleum (Exploration and Extraction) Safety Bill 2010: Report and Final Stages
4:00 pm
David Norris (Independent)
While this is not something that should hold us for a great length of time, I wonder whether the Minister has carried out research to find out if he has contributed a new word to the English language. I have never come across the word "subsea" before, although I have come across "subsoil". In any case, it is a bastardisation of two languages, English and Latin, and is neither one nor the other. Why this devotion to Latin? As "sub" means "under", why not just use the word "undersea"?
