It is. They are open to abuse. It would be unfortunate if, at senior Government level, we were to start abusing the alphabet. On Second Stage I suggested the word "sub" should be followed by a hyphen, but the Minister did not accept this. The alternative is that it should be a compound word, which is what we now suggest. The Minister took the same approach with the word "subsoil" on page 8, line 14.
