Development of the West: Statements

For example, Florence Nightingale's nursemaid is buried in Fahan on the Swilly, from which the Flight of the Earls took place. I could take up an hour recounting the locations of importance in my area. However, I refer to the RTE programme, "Nationwide". RTE has resources and people are interested in watching such matters. There should be co-operation with RTE to make more documentaries, even if only to archive material. For example, General Montgomery's son is still alive, although he is relatively old, and his grandson remains. We should ensure that the elderly people in the area who still remember Lady Montgomery are documented. While I am not here as an advocate for Montgomery, my point is this constitutes an opportunity for tourism. The west has many opportunities, through tourism, that as yet are completely unexploited.

While I could have raised many other issues, I would rather concentrate on a couple. In the 30 seconds that remain to me, I will refer to holiday home rates.
