I support my fellow county man and Opposition Member, Senator Paul Coghlan, in his call for the introduction of what is commonly known as the auctioneers' Bill. In light of the fact that so many auctioneering firms are closing down in the present economic climate, it is incumbent on us to ensure that the deposits of house purchasers are protected. The current insurance requirements under legislation are far too inadequate to cover the eventualities in the event that an auctioneer goes out of business. I have no doubt that Senator Ross will support me in the call for the speedy introduction of the Bill.
