The idea that anything is of a "Third World standard" prejudges the kind of standard that exists in many countries. While I agree that our ICT infrastructure is not what it should be, I understand that the Departments of Education and Science and Communications, Energy and Natural Resources have an innovative initiative in the pipeline, to be announced in the coming months. I hope the Opposition will take on board that announcement when it is made.

There is no argument about the need for new school buildings and ancillary school infrastructure works. As Senator Buttimer is aware, I make the same argument when I experience poor standards in my own local area. There is a lack of transparency in the system. We need a system that brings that about.
