I would like to think that the whole point of my contribution is to highlight that we have not been having this debate properly. It has been conducted in the normal discourse of politics, namely, finger pointing and name calling. It is not addressing the wider ramifications of the issue or the long-term needs. I pointed out a series of measures by which other political parties and other governments of different compositions have addressed similar issues in an inadequate way. It is the way our political system is structured that raises these problems, not the Government or the parties in Government at any given time.
