Economic Competitiveness: Motion
6:00 pm
Brendan Ryan (Labour)
In the country with the lowest population density in Europe, it costs more to acquire land than in the country with the highest population density in Europe. The point is adequately made that we have failed to use prosperity to build the transport infrastructure we need.
The most disturbing quote I have seen in years is in the report of the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland. It states that many companies' US executives do not wish to hold meetings here because it is so difficult to travel around Ireland. They prefer anywhere else in Europe. A significant number of US companies in Ireland claim that Ireland will not be the location of the next phase of investment.
