I too support the proposition for a debate on the report of the Morris tribunal and that into the events in Abbeylara. The House should have a debate in the context that has been referred to of a member of the Garda being shot today in the pursuance of his duty. We should approach these matters with due deference to the service the Garda has given us over the years, mindful of the need to act on the recommendations of bodies like the Morris tribunal. It will be well worthwhile to do so.

I ask for a debate on another matter which also touches on the Garda and on the question of social housing. A recent report pointed out that no garda, teacher, nurse, social worker or anybody else in this income bracket could afford to buy a house in the cities of Ireland.
