If career guidance teachers are available in every VEC area, they can tap into the locality where problems exist. VEC colleges provide a ready made network, as do FÁS offices.

Duplication in the provision of some courses must be examined because money is being wasted. VEC committees should not run two courses in the same area on, for example, engineering. This is not solely an issue for the adult education sector but it is important that money is not wasted when it could be put to good use elsewhere.

The Minister of State, Deputy de Valera, is doing a wonderful job and I wish her well. I know she enjoys her role and she has my full support. She has made a significant difference in this area.
