I agree with Senator Brian Hayes that it would be useful to have a debate on the issue of policing, security policy and related matters to address some of the apparent confusion surrounding the numbers of gardaí and any increases in their numbers. The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Deputy McDowell, and Deputy Bruton should be commended for the way in which they handled this matter. The Minister should be commended on apologising.
