I support the call for a debate on the events of last Saturday and add my commendation on the restraint and courage shown by the Garda in the face of thugs. Some Members of both Houses have been critical of the training gardaí receive in the Garda College in Templemore. They may change their minds following Saturday's events. Gardaí demonstrated in those circumstances the high level of effective training they received in Templemore.
