I have received notice from Senator Jim Walsh that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources to outline the efforts being made to provide a natural gas connection to County Wexford as a matter of priority.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Toole of the following matter:

The urgent need for the Minister for Education and Science to stop immediately the election of members to the body established under the Education Act 1998 relating to teaching through Irish as there is every possibility that the process is unsound and even illegal as there is not available or published any set of rules or guidelines governing the election, candidates have no access to a list of registered voters or of those entitled to vote and the electorate has no access to details of the background of the candidates; and to ensure that the elections will not proceed until she is satisfied that her Department has approved the election rules and guidelines.

I have also received notice from Senator Browne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to outline the progress being made for cystic fibrosis patients in Ireland.

I have also received notice from Senator Mooney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Social and Family Affairs to outline the progress he has made in extending free travel to recipients of Irish pensions resident in the UK.

I have also received notice from Senator Bannon of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs to give an update regarding essential funding for Legan neighbourhood watch and community alert, County Longford, under the programme of grants for locally-based community and voluntary organisations, as this group provides an invaluable service to the local community and is urgently in need of such funding.

I have also received notice from Senator MacSharry of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to immediately establish a jobs task force for the north-west region to urgently seek to attract new service and manufacturing industry to the area given the significant job losses in Sligo and Donegal caused by the closure of a number of high profile employers, such as Saehan Media in Sligo and Magees in Donegal, in the last week and several others in recent times in both counties.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators Jim Walsh, O'Toole and Browne and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Mooney, Bannon and MacSharry may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
