In terms of taxpayers' money, I would be absolutely opposed to the idea of us paying exemplary and other damages at this stage. It is the duty of the Government to look after taxpayers' money. We should pay and look after the people who are entitled to be looked after. It is appalling that they have not got their money yet. In terms of how it is done, however, we should not be handing out exemplary and other damages, and it is not a job for civil servants.
