It does have something to do with me. On the release of the men last week, an editorial in The Irish Times commented that Members of the Oireachtas did not understand the law and the separation of powers between the Judiciary and the Legislature. My view is that law must be tempered by justice and justice is far superior to law. I cannot blame the judge alone because he was put under pressure in a subliminal way by Shell to make the judgment that the men would be put in prison and remain there for three months. It is an appalling situation. The men were trying to defend their democratic rights, their safety and to ensure that Ireland's natural resources are used for the benefit of the people.
