Senator Brian Hayes raised the matter of the review of taxation schemes. When the Minister for Finance, Deputy Cowen, came to the House on the occasion of his first budget last year, he stated he was putting in place a review of all schemes. He stated he would have the outcome of that review before his next budget, which would be informed by the review.

The situation is interesting because the original urban renewal scheme was introduced by the Fine Gael-Labour Party coalition in 1985.
