The existing structures come from an era when most modern medical technology did not exist and when dramatically fewer health professionals were employed. It is fair to say that over the last number of years significant achievements have been made in the delivery of the health service.

There has been criticism of the Hanly report. If one were to take seriously everything that has been said by Senators on the opposite side, we would have a hospital in every town.
