Seanad debates

Margaret Cox (Fianna Fail)

I ask the Leader to invite the new Minister for Health and Children, Deputy Harney, to the House for a debate on the BreastCheck programme. Her predecessor, Deputy Martin, recently allocated €20 million for the BreastCheck programme in the west and north west. However, the implementation of the programme will take at least two more years and, in the interim, more than 200 women in that area may die from breast cancer. It is neither fair nor good enough for the women of Ireland if there is a failure to put an interim strategy in place to address this problem. I ask that the Minister, Deputy Harney, come into the House to discuss this issue so we can put our ideas to her.

I support Senator Ryan on the issue of the new photographing and fingerprinting procedures put in place by the Americans since 1 October.
