Prior to this legislation, any dispute between a landlord and tenant had to come before the courts, which was a slow, expensive and cumbersome process into which neither party entered gladly. The private residential tenancies board established by this legislation will mediate and adjudicate in a user-friendly manner and one hopes that both landlords and tenants will avail of the opportunity it presents. The objective is that people will not require legal assistance or representation and will be able to make their case in a simple way.
