It would be a great achievement for Ireland if an Irish person were to become President of the European Commission. It would also be in complete contrast to the previous occasion when Mr. Sutherland's name was mentioned and the Government parties failed to support him. We should get behind Irish people who could be appointed to such a position because it would bring considerable prestige to the country.
