Perhaps I might raise with the Leader comments made at the weekend by the head of the police force in Northern Ireland, Mr. Hugh Orde. In view of there being such a large number of unsolved crimes and murders there and throughout the island, many of which will remain unsolved and all of which are linked to the political conflict in Northern Ireland, he suggested that consideration once again be given to a truth and reconciliation commission. That issue merits consideration by the House and the Government. It has been suggested before and is seen internationally, particularly in South Africa, as a method of bringing some degree of closure and peace to many families. I would like us to consider that suggestion, and perhaps the Leader might arrange with the appropriate Minister that we have a debate in this House on it.
