Seanad debates

Thursday, 6 November 2003

I urge the Leader to ensure this matter is debated thoroughly in this House and to use her influence to ask that it is debated thoroughly in the other House before Ireland's position is made known at a European Council meeting. If we do not get this debate, I will be forced to oppose the Order of Business. This is precisely the way Europe gets a bad name – big issues being decided in secret at private meetings without reference to the elected representatives of the people of individual countries.
