The debate has been worthwhile and useful and I thank those Senators who have contributed. We politicians have a keen interest in the subject of broadcasting but this is an interest that is shared by the wider public. The people have been very well served by both public and independent Irish broadcasters and the aim of the fund is to build on this. The legislation is designed to provide a framework for the scheme which will balance both accountability and flexibility and ensure that public money is well used and that the scheme can be relevant and effective in the longer term. The legislation is not complex and the main detail of this initiative will be the scheme.
