That is twice the figure paid out by the Department of Agriculture and Food, twice the annual expenditure of the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, and three quarters the annual expenditure of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. The Garda Síochána, Prison Service and courts system are run on €1.6 billion annually.
