Having served as a member of a local authority for the past four years, I warmly welcome the Minister's proposals to allow them to set the boundaries of late-night licensed trading in their areas. For the first time, the views of ordinary citizens in cities and towns across Ireland about what they will tolerate will be formally communicated, through their elected local representatives, to their local District Court. In some ways, that might address some of Senator Norris's concerns.
