We have already done this to a degree, regardless of my views, on the issue of the right to life of the unborn, which is manifestly not covered by the convention. If we can do it on one issue, I cannot see the reason we cannot do so on many others. The idea that there could potentially be conflict is weak and has to do more with a conservative view of where the convention should be in our legal structure than with logic or any compelling argument.
