In the past couple of weeks, the House debated the Official Languages Bill. This Bill enables those who wish to conduct business with public bodies through Irish to do so. In the course of the debate I was glad to commend in particular the Revenue Commissioners on the operation of aonad 88 which enabled people to deal with them through Irish. It was a very effective, friendly and accessible unit. I understand there is a danger that the unit will be dismantled and if that is correct, I deplore it. Such a decision would be a blow to the very intention of the Official Languages Bill and to the State's language policy. I ask the Leader to contact the Minister for Finance on this matter.
