This year, as everybody here knows, has been designated European Year for People with Disabilities. We are well aware of the failure of the Government to provide adequate resources to deal with the difficulties that many families face. The real commitment of the Government is highlighted when we see that it opposes Irish participation in drafting a new treaty on the rights of persons with disabilities. It is impeding at European level the establishment of a combined European effort to eliminate difficulties for people with disabilities. Will the Leader request the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to come to the House and clarify the position with regard to his commitment to people with disabilities, given that this year has designated European Year for People with Disabilities and we will host the Special Olympics.
