The OECD in its report on regulatory reform in Ireland, published in 2001, said that we made a good start in implementing a regulatory reform programme, that we compare well with other OECD countries in terms of market access and that the pace of liberalisation of the telecommunications and aviation sectors has resulted in many benefits. However, it pointed out that there is much more to be done in respect of certain sectors to strengthen competition and rebalance the relationship between producer and consumer in favour of the consumer.
