I read yesterday resolution 1441 and I would encourage others to do so before speaking on the issue. It is clear, in terms of the commitment it puts on the United Nations Security Council, what we want to see happen before we are satisfied the Iraqi regime is competent to have such weapons. The key aspect is the final paragraph which states that the Council has repeatedly warned Iraq that it will face serious consequences as a result of its continued violations of its obligations. How long will this issue continue? Whether or not one believes the substantial evidence put before the Council yesterday by the Secretary of State, Colin Powell, how long can we continue to allow this regime to be in possession of such weapons?
