The figures for the period November 2002 to January 2003 show a drop in the number of fatalities over the same period in the previous year, from 112 to 68. Credit must go to the Garda Síochána for enforcing the law, thus bringing about this dramatic fall. There has been a sustained increase in the level of enforcement by the Garda Síochána, particularly in the key areas of speeding and seat belt wearing over the period of the strategy.
