Adjournment Matters. - Recognition of Medical Qualifications.

My Department, both directly at the Committee of Senior Officials on Public Health and through the Department of Education and Science, has been making Ireland's concerns known to the European Commission. Our main concerns and those of the regulatory bodies regarding the proposed directive include article 5, which makes provision for a professional registered in one member state to work in another member state for a period of up to 16 weeks per year without having to register with the regulatory authority in the host member state. The Department also has concerns regarding the proposal to abolish the advisory committees under Article 45. These committees examine the training programmes in member states and provide advice to the European Commission and member states with regard to the standards and suitability of training programmes undertaken by members of the various professions.
