Death of Former Members: Expressions of Sympathy.

John Dardis (Progressive Democrats)

On behalf of the Progressive Democrats, I wish to be associated with these expressions of sympathy. David Molony did an enormous amount in the course of his life and obviously still had a great deal to offer. It is a great tragedy for his family that he should die at such an early age, leaving behind two young sons. As his career has been well described by other Senators, I will not repeat what they said, but it is clear that he distinguished himself in every area of life in which he participated. When he was a student he won an award from the Incorporated Law Society. His political career was also very distinguished. As Senator Ross mentioned, the national newspapers decribed him as someone who had the potential to lead the Fine Gael Party, but he decided to retire from national politics in 1987. To his family, his Fine Gael and legal colleagues, we extend our sympathy.

I knew Michael Queally slightly. He came from a very distinguished farming family in County Waterford and, as stated, was a Senator between 1973 and 1987 and served his country and locality well. He will certainly be missed by his large family. To the families of both men, we extend our sympathy. May they both rest in peace.
