Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Sep 2023)

Mark Daly: ...to on the 50th anniversary. I also pay tribute to our colleague Damien, who worked in the parliamentary community. I spoke with him at the Association of Irish Local Government conference in Sligo on that Wednesday, when we discussed boundaries, commissions and the future. Unfortunately, we lost him too soon. I would like to be associated with those remarks.

Seanad: Order of Business (9 Oct 2014)

Mark Daly: ...credit to our impending Senator, Mr. John McNulty. I should praise him, because he has more interest in our heritage than we might be aware of. He made the journey from Donegal through Leitrim, to Sligo, to Lissadell House, where, I understand, he met the Taoiseach. Apparently-----

Seanad: Arts and Culture Sector: Motion (8 Oct 2014)

Mark Daly: ...of whom have fought for an equality that eludes us still - think of their own counties and think of the public parks, buildings and roads named after women, aside perhaps from Markievicz Park in Sligo, they would be hard-pressed to name them. Over 50% of the population are women, but women do not get proper recognition. What we are celebrating is what we were trying to achieve as...

Seanad: Arts and Culture Sector: Motion (8 Oct 2014)

Mark Daly: ...for this House. This is not befitting the House. The Minister was not entirely informed of the reasons people were being appointed to IMMA. I accept that. On 20 June, the Taoiseach visited Sligo for the opening of Lissadell House. During that visit, I understand Mr. McNulty met him with a delegation and the issue of the Seanad by-election was discussed. If the Minster does not know...

We have given €18 million to the World Bank. I am not sure if that is money we have already...

Seanad: Order of Business (16 Oct 2012)

Mark Daly: As my colleagues opposite congratulated Sligo Rovers, I had better strike a balance by congratulating Kenmare GAA Club on its victory in the county junior championship final. Uniquely, the club is in both the all-Ireland hurling final and the club championship final. Very few clubs have managed to achieve this.

Seanad: Order of Business (16 Oct 2012)

Mark Daly: ...in terms of voluntarism, an issue on which I ask the Leader to arrange a debate, as it is at the core of what Ireland is about. All of the people who contribute ensure we have teams such as Sligo Rovers and Kenmare on the field. It is a very important aspect of Irish society.

Seanad: Access to Cancer Treatment Bill 2012: Second Stage (11 Jul 2012)

Mark Daly: ...Minister to the House. I commend Senators MacSharry and Crown for introducing this Bill. Senator MacSharry is well aware of the importance of cancer, having fought the fight in his own family in Sligo for many years. Many families have been affected by cancer and we all know someone who has suffered with the disease. The Bill is given added weight by the inclusion of Senator Crown's...

Seanad: Order of Business (19 Nov 2008)

Mark Daly: ...Senator John Ellis spoke many times in this House and throughout the country about the difficulties of being the sole Oireachtas Member from Leitrim, while the Oireachtas Members representing the Sligo, north Leitrim and Roscommon-South-Leitrim do an excellent job. As the Cathaoirleach is well aware, we all prefer to be represented by our own county men and at this 11th hour I ask the...
