Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Recycling Policy (14 May 2024)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Minister of State for his response. I am pleased to hear there may be scope for the sort of machines to which I referred to be introduced by local authorities. That would be good. To refer to some of the remarks made by Deputy O'Sullivan regarding accessibility, it is an issue. Will the Minister of State investigate whether, as standard practice, these machines could be a...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Recycling Policy (14 May 2024)

Alan Farrell: 59. To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment to provide an update on the implementation and operation of the deposit-return scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21557/24]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Recycling Policy (14 May 2024)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Minister of State for his response. Like every new scheme, there are bound to be teething problems and there were a few along the way in the last few weeks. Like my colleague, I broadly welcome the success rate that has been illustrated. I note with appreciation the amount of time that the Minister of State gave to the Oireachtas joint committee recently where he went through...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Taoiseach's Meetings and Engagements (14 May 2024)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Taoiseach for his response. I commend him both personally and politically on the speed with which he found common ground with Pedro Sánchez and others. I very much look forward to progress being made on that matter. We need to be honest with ourselves, hearing on a daily basis the rhetoric coming from the Israeli Government. The reality of recognising the state of...

Alan Farrell: I ask the Minister for her response.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Library Services (9 May 2024)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Minister. Since my beginnings in politics in 2004, I have been incredibly proud to support improving our libraries across Fingal. One thing I was most proud of when I served as mayor in 2007 was the reopening of both Malahide and Garristown libraries. The library in Garristown is a wonderful facility with a fantastic history. The Minister has been very consistent in...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Schemes (9 May 2024)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Minister for her reply. I agree with the previous speaker, broadly. No Department is an island and this is a multi-Department issue with dereliction in our towns and villages. I commend the Ministers on their significant work and investment across the country, including in my constituency, Dublin Fingal, as it currently exists. I had the privilege of not that long ago...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Schemes (9 May 2024)

Alan Farrell: I completely agree with what the Minister said. As she well knows, vibrant communities have people living in the middle of them. Especially in northern Fingal, the success of the national broadband project has meant that more and more people have the capacity to work from home, particularly in a post-Covid environment. Any public representative knows there are just as many people at home...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Schemes (9 May 2024)

Alan Farrell: 43. To ask the Minister for Rural and Community Development for an update on her Department's efforts to bring more vacant buildings into use in towns and villages; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20571/24]

Ceisteanna Eile (Atógáil) - Other Questions (Resumed): An Garda Síochána (23 Apr 2024)

Alan Farrell: 21. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality to report on the number of gardaí being recruited, and attesting, in 2024; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17838/24]

Ceisteanna Eile (Atógáil) - Other Questions (Resumed): An Garda Síochána (23 Apr 2024)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Leas-Cheann Comhairle for pointing out that she had some time for me. I thank the Minister for her response. I am encouraged by the number of recruits who applied once the age limit was changed. That is really encouraging. It is something that I had called for, along with the training allowance to take account of that older age group who may have financial commitments and...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Closed-Circuit Television Systems (23 Apr 2024)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Minister. I do not have much to add other than it would be helpful for us to have another conversation about this in the autumn regarding the uptake, to make sure the scheme is operating as effectively and efficiently as possible, and perhaps then to determine whether an ongoing fund could be provided to it year on year as part of the annual Vote for the Department of Justice....

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: An Garda Síochána (23 Apr 2024)

Alan Farrell: There is no doubt in my mind that while the numbers are low statistically, they have increased. I know the Minister accepts and understands that. We have an issue with morale. It is very clear that we have an issue in respect of many of our men and women in uniform across all branches of the Defence Forces, including An Garda Síochána. It is undoubtedly going to be an ongoing...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Closed-Circuit Television Systems (23 Apr 2024)

Alan Farrell: 8. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality for an update on engagement with local authorities with regard to community CCTV schemes; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17839/24]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Closed-Circuit Television Systems (23 Apr 2024)

Alan Farrell: My question relates to the Minister's and the Department's engagement with local authorities regarding the CCTV scheme that was rolled out recently, following the passage of legislation which enabled local authorities to actually get these schemes up and running. They are a long-required benefit to communities up and down the country to make people safer in their own communities.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Closed-Circuit Television Systems (23 Apr 2024)

Alan Farrell: I thank the Minister. I alluded to the fact that these schemes are just so important. They provide people with peace of mind that if there is an incident, it can be looked back at. If there is an event, for instance, like the concerts that take place in Malahide Castle every summer, it is important that there is the opportunity for An Garda Síochána to engage with the local...
