Perhaps it can take initiatives to ensure we save taxpayers' money.

Will he also address the point he made in his opening statement that a NAMA-type organisation should be established? Would that work on the same principle as a NAMA-type organisation?

Summer Economic Statement 2017: Statements (13 Jul 2017)

John McGuinness: ...completely negative. It did not give any hope to people who find themselves out in the pouring rain. They are looking for a little help from the State. We allowed €74 billion to be taken over by NAMA. I accept that it returned €32 billion. There is €16.5 billion in bad debt. I firmly believe that with a little legislative initiative and ingenuity, the State could...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Overview of Operations and Functioning of NAMA: Discussion (13 Jul 2017)

John McGuinness: There was correspondence between the Committee of Public Accounts and NAMA regarding Flow East. That correspondence was sent on to this committee. That correspondence started with a letter from Flow East. Presumably, that first letter was sent to NAMA for response so NAMA will be aware of the correspondence to the committees from the beginning. Is that correct?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Overview of Operations and Functioning of NAMA: Discussion (13 Jul 2017)

John McGuinness: ...beginning. This concerns a policy matter so the witnesses can answer me in that way if they wish, though I hope that they do not do so. There are major discussions around vulture funds and how NAMA handled the current debt of mortgages left with the banks. John McGuinness: NAMA got €74 billion and then got back €32 billion. The agency could relate that to what the vulture funds do, building in the criteria the it wants observed through the process of taking in that €16.5 billion of mortgage debt from the banks.
