Other Questions: National Monuments (27 Sep 2017)

Heather Humphreys: ...this period, it can be expected there will be clarity and agreement on the future development of the buildings in the light of future court decisions and what emanates from the deliberations of the Moore Street advisory group. In these circumstances, and given that there are no further works approved by the courts, it is not envisaged that further interim works will be undertaken by the...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: National Monuments (12 Nov 2015)

Heather Humphreys: I am satisfied we are preserving what is the national monument at Nos. 14-17 Moore Street. As the Deputy is aware, work has started on that site and it will be a lasting tribute to the memory of the rebels in the 1916 Rising. On the issue of the relatives, I am aware how passionate they are about this. We have been working with the relatives and have had numerous meetings with them. I...

Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed) - Priority Questions: National Monuments (9 Dec 2014)

Heather Humphreys: I want to be clear that I am not abandoning the Moore Street project. As I said, I was disappointed when the decision was arrived at by the city council. I have met with both groups of relatives, one of which is entirely supportive of the proposals for the national monument. They are keen that it should progress. I have also met with Dublin City Council's Moore Street advisory committee...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: National Monuments (22 Oct 2014)

Heather Humphreys: The preservation order covers Nos. 14-17, with the objective of protecting No. 16, as the final headquarters of the leaders of the 1916 Rising prior the surrender. A small number of buildings on Moore Street, in varying states of order, can be identified with specific events which took place within them, with No. 16 being the main one. It was what the then Minister was asked to save when...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Estimates For Public Services 2017: Vote 33 - Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs (4 Oct 2017)

Heather Humphreys: The Moore Street forum was set up. It was well attended and it worked well. One of its main recommendations was to set up an advisory group. That group, chaired by Dr. Tom Collins, is working away. Its objective is to seek consensus on a way forward for Moore Street and the surrounding area, liaise with the interested groups, provide a forum for the resolution of concerns and co-operate...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: National Monuments (22 Oct 2014)

As indicated in previous replies, revised designs submitted by the owners for the restoration of the national monument buildings at Nos. 14-17 Moore Street and the creation of a commemorative centre to the leaders of the 1916 Rising on the site were approved by my predecessor on 30 April 2014. The granting of the consent followed...

Topical Issue Debate: National Monuments (14 Jan 2016)

Heather Humphreys: I have seen at first hand the fabric of the buildings that date back to 1916. I refer to what is there at Nos. 14 to 17 Moore Street. If one goes into Nos. 18 and 19, one will see that the inside of those buildings has been completely changed.

Topical Issue Debate: National Monuments (14 Jan 2016)

Heather Humphreys: This is the first Government to do something about Moore Street. We purchased the national monument. We have made money available to carry out restoration work.

National Monuments: Motion [Private Members] (2 Feb 2016)

Written Answers — Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht: Departmental Reports (20 Jun 2017)

Heather Humphreys: The Moore Street Advisory Group has just commenced its examination of the report's recommendations. Implementation will involve consultation, negotiation and agreement with, and actions by, a variety of public and private bodies. It would be entirely premature to attempt to cost the outcome at this early stage.

National Monuments: Motion [Private Members] (2 Feb 2016)

Heather Humphreys: Finally, I want to refer to the motion's call for me to create a historical or cultural quarter in the Moore Street-GPO area. No matter how many times I explain my remit as Minister for the arts, Sinn Féin ignores it. The vast bulk of the surrounding properties are privately owned.

The report, research, inspections and investigations...

Topical Issue Debate: National Monuments (14 Jan 2016)

Heather Humphreys: The expert advice I have received is very clear. As I have outlined, Nos. 18 and 19 Moore Street were in ruins. None of the original fabric of the building at No. 13 is still present, as it was rebuilt in the 1940s. It has been clearly demonstrated that Nos. 14 to 17 are of historic importance.
