Seanad: Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2020: Committee Stage (3 Dec 2020)

Eugene Murphy: I remind Members that because we are on Committee Stage, they can speak as often as they wish and for as long as they wish. I do not want to over-encourage Senators, which could be dangerous. I welcome the Minister of State. I have a long list of speakers. The next speaker is Senator Chambers.

Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Estimates for Public Services 2017
Vote 13 - Office of Public Works (Revised)
(15 Feb 2017)

Eugene Murphy: As the Minister of State knows, many roads have been cut off for a long period of time. Local businesses and schools were closed. If we consider parts of south Roscommon around Loch Fuinseann, which is still flooded long after the heavy rainfall is gone, would it not make sense to have a budget for roads in such areas?

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Community Employment Schemes Supervisors (26 Sep 2018)

Eugene Murphy: Before the Minister responds, I make an appeal to both Deputies. Deputies Durkan and Murphy O'Mahony have both been sitting in the Chamber for a long time and I want to ensure they have an opportunity to have their questions answered before 12 noon. Could Deputies Broughan and Brady stick to the rules and regulations to which we all agreed on the running of this House? I urge all speakers...

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (24 Oct 2019)

Eugene Murphy: ...Naughten and myself have been made aware of an issue that has arisen in respect of some essential repair works that must be carried out on the courthouse in Roscommon town. We do not know how long that work will take. When dealing with such an old building, things can naturally take a long time but there are strong suggestions that the Courts Service will be moved to Carrick-on-Shannon,...

Direct Provision: Statements (30 Mar 2017)

Eugene Murphy: Why is it taking so long to progress these cases? People are supposed to live on €19.10 per week. These unfortunate people cannot work or go to college and there is no integration with local people. This is a very important factor. I acknowledge the McMahon report has many good recommendations and I understand some of them are being implemented. I am very impressed with the...

Direct Provision: Statements (30 Mar 2017)

Eugene Murphy: Direct provision is not fit for purpose and Fianna Fáil believes independent oversight is needed. People have been in direct provision for far too long. I acknowledge the figures are dropping, but it is hard to imagine that almost 600 people have been in direct provision for more than five years. It is unthinkable that in this country people could be boxed up for so long. Let us...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: General Scheme of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Bill 2023: Discussion (27 Sep 2023)

Eugene Murphy: ...contention. I hope Mr. Duggan can take on board what the Chair said. If Mr. Duggan already covered this, I may have missed it. When people defer their pension and continue to work on, for how long can they defer the pension? The only other thing I have to say is that I very much welcome the attention to carers. As the Chairman knows and as I know, people might have only put in five,...

Topical Issue Debate: Mental Health Services Provision (31 Jan 2017)

Eugene Murphy: ...cases to which I referred and I will outline it. I was told that the case was referred to the primary care child and family service in May 2016. I was informed the psychologist for the area is on long-term leave and national HSE approval is awaited for the temporary backfill of the post but, unfortunately, until such time as this position is filled there are insufficient resources within...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Autism Support Services (2 Jul 2019)

Eugene Murphy: ...for those parents. It is an area that we have to examine in general. I say that because the Minister of State is well aware of the July provision situation and what happened in the courts not too long ago. I am sure that Minister of State will agree that the goal posts have changed and that we are going to have to take an overall look at this situation. I welcome the fact that we have...

Eugene Murphy: It did not take that long to set up the quango.

Revised Estimates for Public Services 2016 (Resumed) (22 Jun 2016)

Eugene Murphy: I call on the Minister, for whom this has been a long and difficult day. I have been in and out of the Chamber a number of times and she has been present. She has five minutes with which to conclude the debate.

Other Questions: Garda Recruitment (28 Sep 2016)

Eugene Murphy: I apologise to the Members who have been here for a long time waiting for their questions, such as Deputies Declan Breathnach and John Curran, but we have run out of time.

Direct Provision: Statements (30 Mar 2017)
